Serving Others to Bring Happiness, Spiritual Health, and Wealth

Serving Others to Bring Happiness, Spiritual Health, and Wealth

Serving Others to Bring Happiness, Spiritual Health, and Wealth

What are you up to this summer? Are you lazing around indoors trying to avoid the heat? If you are, I’d like to give you one of my patented GBKs (gentle butt kick) and tell you to get out there and do something with your time, lest you get as stagnant as the summer heat.

Do something this summer! Volunteer. You don’t have to be outside at all; you can volunteer indoors. Serving others can bring happiness not only to those you serve, but to yourself as well.  Just because the air is stagnant doesn’t mean you have to be.

Now, I’m staying home this summer, but in the past, you know that I’ve traveled quite a bit.  I want to share a story with y’all, a story I shared during a Sunday talk for the Unity Church of Raleigh.  Just click on the play button below, grab some lemonade, and sit a spell.  Pay attention so you will know who the heck “Mama Ida” is and why I still have something of hers in the top drawer of my dresser.

You don’t have to travel halfway around the world to work on your spiritual health. Just remember, every time you serve others, you’re giving back on a spiritual level. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; the word “wealth” comes from the word “weal,” which means well-being. How are you contributing to the wealth of your own community?

I want you to focus on your own spiritual health as well. Love yourself… just not in a narcissistic way.  If you don’t love yourself, how can anyone else love you? If you’re not happy with yourself, you can’t give a part of yourself for the betterment of your community and the world. Feel like you’re not a people person? Go volunteer at an animal shelter. Animals are people too!

I want you to bring happiness to others (and yourself) by serving others in some capacity, even if it’s playing with the animals at the shelter or finding food banks to donate to. Your spirits will be lifted by helping out your sisters and brothers on the planet.

Whatever you do, I want you to do it with love, happiness, and a great big smile!

Onwards,

Giving Thanks: Gratitude And Appreciation For Your Life

Giving Thanks: Gratitude And Appreciation For Your Life

Have you given thanks today? I’m not saying in a big way, just thanking your Divine Spirit for another day. Ditch all that mundane worrying that bogs you down and show appreciation for the things and people you love and have.  Gratitude is the best attitude to have, so live in the moment and love your life!

One of my favorite inspirational singers is Karen Drucker whose beautiful music celebrates all the blessings you and I have.  In honor of this season and the resurrection experience we can ALL experience this spring, I hope you’ll enjoy this lovely simple music and message in her song:

What needs to be resurrected in your life?  Does a relationship need mending?  Does an old friendship need to be renewed?  Does your attitude need a tune-up or a major overhaul?  Does your gratitude for your life need to be lifted out of some pain or suffering you’ve been focusing on?

Whatever IN you or AROUND you that needs UPLIFT and NEW LIFE, I affirm that it happens for you this spring.

And may you know that you are truly SIA (Spirit In Action)!  Whatever your belief system, whatever your color or creed, whatever your life experience, you are in the hands of a loving Spirit.  More than that, you ARE the hands of that Higher Power who takes physical form in you and expresses through you.

Give yourself and those you love some CPR this season… Creative Positive Revival!

    Onwards, and UPWARDS!

Spend Less, Save More, & Make Time For A Rich Life

Spend Less, Save More, & Make Time For A Rich Life

If you had no financial constraints, what would you be doing with your time? I’m sure you’d spend more time with family and friends and pursue the hobbies and interests you love, but after a while, even that would get old.  Most of the time, when I ask people why they aren’t doing what they love doing, it’s because of  money. Whether they’re afraid they don’t HAVE enough money to do what they really want to do, or are afraid to do what they really want because they’re afraid they won’t MAKE money, they are still afraid because of money.

You know, there are only three concrete ways I know of to have more money: 1) make more; 2) save more; and 3) spend less.

Not very glamorous is it? You could add a few more options for Bonnie and Clyde or the handful of rich, blond-and-tan heiresses out there, but for most of us there are only three choices.

Make more, save more, spend less. Vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. Your basic Neapolitan medley.

Simple as that. No need to get fancy. (Remember, keep it simple, sexy!)

Debt is not glamorous. Getting out of debt is not glamorous. But what you can do AFTER you get out of debt can be downright fabulous!

Take a second now and just imagine. Imagine that you have no debt—Your car is paid for, your contributions are paid on time or early, your house is paid for, and you’ve got a nice bit of money stocked away for emergencies, retirement, your children’s education, and any other big expenditures you foresee. Hey, you’ve even got a bank account for travel and other luxuries.

What I’m getting at is you’ve got to have a mission and it’s got to be bigger than your bank account. Your mission is not about making money, though that may certainly contribute to your ability to make your mission come true. YOU are here for a reason and it’s time to stop waffling about in a state of confusion and/or ignorance and figure out what it is!

Where do your passion and your expertise intersect? That’s the place to start. And when you’re feeling irritated that you have to eat Neapolitan ice cream from Food Lion rather than a delicious gelato you order on your weekend trip to Rome, just remember, the Neapolitan is the gateway to your gelato!

Make more, save more, spend less. That’s got to be your mantra. You may have to go through gallons of Neapolitan but eventually you will hit gelato GOLD! Delicious, isn’t it?

Give Thanks and Focus on the Good No Matter What

Give Thanks and Focus on the Good No Matter What

Questions from readers are pouring in and I’m thrilled to be featuring these in the ezine—Thank you for sharing your challenges!

I like to think of our emails as conversations–You and I are just sitting here enjoying a nice tall glass of lemonade, discussing how we can have even more success, balance, and prosperity in our ls.

It’s a joy to spend this time with you and I look forward to it.

Recently I took some seminars on Spiritual Laws and Spiritual Powers at a conference in Raleigh and it’s fascinating stuff! I decided to focus on the powers of will and release in my own life.

Release has to do with letting go of any negative thoughts and ideas that make you feel separate from other people or a Higher Power and that impede your growth. Will has to do with seeing the positive in you and me and leading from a place in which you respect and value each of us as unique expressions of Divine energy.

But what do you do when you’re not seeing the good, that Divine spark, in another person? What do we do when other people are acting out (or worse, we’re acting out–come on, we all do it, doll…)?

I personally like to affirm that Higher Order is always at work in my life, no matter what the outer appearance may be. Another way of saying this is that there is a higher order and benevolent energy at work in all things. After all, entropy or supposed chaos has it’s own order–The great physicists have proven that.

You can choose to tap into this orderly energy OR you can focus on the appearance of disorganization or disharmony in your life. For me, some weeks ago that meant letting go of the fact that my car had gone into the shop for the FOURTH time and was still not fixed.

Hmmmmm. What could be the gift in this situation? I was feeling peeved, I was feeling inconvenienced, I was feeling downright irritated and frustrated at having to juggle cars with my husband. But then I realized, I can be grateful that I HAVE a car to use most days, one that will get me where I need to go, without limitations.

Give thanks for what you do have!  Instead of focusing on the inconvenience, I CHOSE to focus on the fact that I have a car, which is a lot more than most people in many countries. I remembered from my time volunteering in Guatemala that only about 10% of the population own their own cars. Imagine that you are the only one out of ten of your friends who has their own transportation. Or you’re one of the nine out of ten folks who don’t have a car of their own and the freedom and mobility that provides.

Puts things into perspective, doesn’t it?

So, tell me, what are YOU griping about or peeved by today? Can you let it go? And if you choose to let it go, what gift could you find in the midst of a “difficult” situation?

Why not focus on the GOOD in your life and in YOU? It takes less muscles and energy to smile–Why not make things easy on yourself? 🙂

            Onwards, to your success!
